I’ve lived in Los Angeles for years, and never knew the full story behind these beautiful and intricate stairways decorating the hills of Silver Lake, California. According to Los Angeles Magazine, they’re “vestiges from when the city had a trolley system.”
Not only have I now become fascinated by the history, but I also felt like I was exploring a secret garden — only it was in my city’s backyard.
If you find yourself in Silver Lake with a few hours to spare, this urban hike is worth the trip. We did have to closely follow directions, which successfully led us in a loop from one hill to the next and back again.
The experience also brought up “Who Framed Roger Rabbit?,” which I haven’t seen in years, but is definitely next on my list.
